Throw a Party!

It’s Frankie Manning’s birthday and everyone’s invited!

Throw a birthday party in your home location in honour of the great Frankie Manning.

Frankie’s spirit lives on and it’s an occasion to celebrate! The vision of the Frankie Manning Foundation is that Lindy Hop will be danced all over the world to live big band music and that everywhere that Lindy Hop is danced, on the dance floors and off, people of diverse backgrounds will treat each other with the respect and warmth. And the hope is that the history of Frankie Manning and the originators of the Lindy Hop at the Savoy Ballroom will be well known to dancers and non-dancers everywhere.

Don’t forget to add your event to the World Party Map!

Party ideas:

  • Throw a dance!
  • Serve birthday cake or Frankie’s favourite, sweet potato pie! Perhaps in a “bake sale” format with proceeds donated to the Frankie Manning Foundation.
  • Play music from the Savoy Ballroom
  • Teach a dance lesson including Frankie’s signature moves… maybe the Global 99 Choreo!
  • Show film clips of Frankie
  • Share information about Frankie so that new dancers come to learn of his legacy
  • Award a Frankie Spirit Award to a lead and follow from your community!
  • Do The Shim Sham… you might use George Gee’s version of Stompin’ At the Savoy which includes Frankie calling it out!
  • Make a copy of Frankie’s book, Frankie Manning: Ambassador of Lindy Hop, available for people to peruse. It’s a definite must-read for all Lindy Hoppers so encourage people to order it to read for themselves.
